Jalen Hurts goes deep with AC for Philly schools

The Jalen Hurts Foundation is excited to announce a new initiative to provide air conditioning to Philadelphia schools. The foundation will donate $5,000 for every touchdown Hurts scores this season to help schools purchase and install AC units. Most schools have air conditioning, but not all classrooms have working AC units. It is not uncommon to enter a classroom where the temperature is 80 degrees or higher. This makes it difficult for students to focus and learn. Philly schools struggle with more than violence
The Philadelphia School District has been struggling for years with violence, poor academic performance, and a lack of resources. In 2022, the district was placed in receivership by the state of Pennsylvania. The receiver, Dr. William Hite, has been tasked with turning around the district. One of Hite's top priorities is to improve the district's facilities. Many schools in the district are in need of repairs and upgrades. Some schools do not have air conditioning, which can make it difficult for students to learn in the hot summer months. Many Philly schools are dangerous and lack basic amenities necessary to allow students to thrive. Air conditioning is something that should no longer be considered a luxury.
The Jalen Hurts Foundation's donation will help to provide much-needed air conditioning to Philadelphia schools. The foundation's goal is to raise enough money to install AC units in all of the city's public schools. "It was tough for me as a student when the AC wasn't working," Hurts said. "I couldn't focus. I was uncomfortable. I just want to make sure that the kids in Philly have a better experience than I did." In addition to providing financial support, the Jalen Hurts Foundation will also work with schools to develop educational programs about the importance of air conditioning.
